Terms of Service
By creating an account or using the Poor Man's Budget Tool (the "Service"), you ("you," the "User") agree to these Terms of Service (the "Terms") and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What the Service is — and is not
The Service is a personal budgeting and bill-planning tool. You enter your own income, bills, and spending; the Service organizes them on a paycheck-based timeline, shows a running balance, and suggests a payment order when funds are tight.
- It is a planner, not financial advice. It does not provide financial, legal, accounting, tax, or investment advice.
- It is not a bank, lender, or payment service. It never connects to your bank, never moves or holds money, and never accesses your accounts. You enter information manually.
- It uses no AI to compute your budget. Calculations are deterministic (date math and sorting).
- It never collects bank account numbers, routing numbers, card numbers, or banking login credentials.
You remain solely responsible for your own financial decisions and outcomes.
2. Eligibility & your account
You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live). The Service requires you to sign in with Google to create an account; this is how your budget is saved and synced to you across your devices. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. See the Privacy Policy for what we collect and how it's stored.
3. Pricing — free core & optional Household tier
- The core Service is free. The full personal budgeting toolkit — income, bills, the paycheck timeline, shortfall triage, spending reports, sign-in, and cloud sync across your own devices — is free to use, with no time limit and no paywall.
- Optional "Household" subscription — $1.99/month. A paid tier adds household sharing: a partner or caregiver on the same budget. It is entirely optional; the free core never gates the person who needs it. (Household sharing is in development and not yet live.)
- When offered, Household subscriptions are sold and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, subject to their terms, and renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel anytime through your app-store settings; cancellation stops future charges and the account reverts to the free tier. Refunds are governed by the app store's policies. Prices may change with reasonable advance notice.
4. Your data and content
- You own the information you enter ("Your Content").
- You grant the Company a limited license to store, process, and sync Your Content solely to provide the Service to you.
- Your Content is stored in the cloud (Google Firebase) under your account, encrypted in transit and at rest. It is not end-to-end encrypted — see the Privacy Policy for exactly how it's handled.
- The Company does not sell Your Content and does not use it for advertising.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service, including: violating law; attempting to breach security or access others' data; reverse-engineering or disrupting the Service; or using it to harm others.
6. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. The Company does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its calculations fit every situation. The Service is not a substitute for professional financial, legal, tax, or accounting advice. You are solely responsible for verifying your own numbers, deadlines, and decisions.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Company will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost savings, late fees, overdrafts, missed payments, lost data, or financial losses, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, the Company's total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or US $20.
8. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. The Company may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms or as required by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., data ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability) survive.
9. Changes
The Company may update the Service and these Terms. Material changes will be posted with an updated effective date; continued use after changes means you accept them.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
